Club & Equipment Testing Kit for Golf Tournaments

The Challenge

Before the start of every tournament, the United States Golf Association (USGA) sends team members to test players’ clubs and equipment. That way, they can ensure that all the equipment is within guidelines and protocols prior to play. In the past, getting testing and calibration equipment from the USGA’s home base in New Jersey to USGA sanctioned tournaments across the U.S. involved placing them into cases without any cushioning foam or organization. To avoid damage in transit and efficiency upon arrival, the USGA needed a more secure solution for this sensitive, expensive equipment.

The Response

The USGA partnered with Cases By Source to develop a highly organized Pelican case with a custom foam insert. Every piece of testing equipment had a dedicated spot within the insert, which not only ensured safety in transit but also made it easy to see if anything was missing.

To support the development of this custom case, one of our designers visited the USGA facility multiple times as it was local to CBS. While giving us the chance to meet their team — including the people doing the testing — these on-site visits allowed our designer to see and measure the equipment to deliver a precise foam insert. It was also a chance to ask about use of the equipment, including the order of operations to ensure their ideal placement within the insert.

As a custom case provider, we always like to take advantage of the opportunity to meet with customers face-to-face when possible. That way, we can visualize and touch the equipment that we build custom case solutions around, as well any protocols that are relevant to their use.

The Solution

With the new Pelican case, the USGA has a safer way to get testing equipment to events — while making the testing process more efficient as well thanks to the case’s organization. The cases were able to be designed, manufactured and delivered in just a few weeks so the USGA could have them ready in time for one of golf’s most prestigious tournaments: the Masters!
