EVA Case to Streamline & Enhance Optics Products

The Challenge

For decades, a leading manufacturer of optics lenses relied on wooden boxes with standard blue foam inserts to house their products. Alongside the desire for a brand refresh to add perceived value to the products, the company wanted to consolidate their inventory from over 10 different sized wood boxes to a more streamlined solution that saved costs. Having talked with Cases By Source over the years, the manufacturer chose us as their partner to design and build a custom solution.

The Response

Moving away from wood boxes, the first step in this process was to create a higher-quality EVA case for the optics products. This option gave the manufacturer the flexibility and portability they wanted in a soft case with the protection of a hard case. Black and yellow colors were used in the case design to reflect the brand’s colors, while an embroidered logo was applied to the case’s exterior to further tell the brand’s story.

The transition from wood to EVA cases lent itself to a roadmap for consolidating SKU lists to lower inventory costs. Of the 10 original wood boxes, we found that only two sizes of cases were needed: small and large. For each of these small and large options, 15 different styles of foam inserts were developed to accommodate various product configurations (10 variations for the small case and five variations for the large cases). This shift allowed the optics manufacturer to streamline their overall inventory management.

From an inventory management standpoint, Cases By Source also provided the flexibility for the customer to order their EVA cases and foam inserts individually. This gave the manufacturer the ability to reduce overall inventory they were sitting on at any given time. When ready to place a new order, the customer can simply reference the inventory part number and access what they need.

The Solution

BeforeAfter_EVAoptics

Taking a consultative approach to custom case design, the CBS team was able to come up with a solution for the optics manufacturer that solved two pain points: add value to the product and drive down inventory costs. With thousands of the initial cases already in inventory, the optics manufacturer is prepared to scale as their brand grows.
