Flu Vaccine Transport Case

The Challenge

The transport of a vaccine is a sensitive process. When shipped between facilities and physician offices, vaccines need to remain refrigerated in a tight temperature range — otherwise, they can spoil and be rendered useless. With a new flu vaccine that would ship overnight, a leading drug company invested in a custom case solution to keep its product stable and uncompromised while in transit.

The Response

While Cases By Source proposed a variety of thermo-insulated hard and soft cases, the option we collectively landed on was the one that passed significant temperature studies. Built using rotomolding technology, the custom case featured a double-wall structure, with a phase-change gel inserted inside the case wall, as well as a gasketed lid, to preserve the temperature range. To enhance brand recognition and streamline the user experience, we molded decorative and instructional information into the plastic of the case.

The Solution

Before working with Cases By Source, the drug company did not have a stable way to ship its flu vaccine overnight. With this custom-designed, temperature-controlled case, they can remain confident that the quality of their product is maintained while in transit. Whether shipped to a doctor’s office or back to the company’s facility due to a surplus on-site, the preservation of the flu vaccine means that individuals have greater access to protection against influenza.
