Custom Foam Insert for Monitoring System Technician Kit

The Challenge

While pick-and-pluck foam can seem like a cost-effective and convenient solution on paper, cutting away foam cavities to accommodate parts and tools can be a time-consuming process. Not to mention, it’s also more prone to error, as you’re left to guess the size, shape and depth of these items — with no way to backtrack once the foam cavities are removed. To save time and equip their technicians with better resources, a leading provider of environmental monitoring systems worked with Cases By Source to create a custom foam insert for their Pelican Air case.

The Response

To kick off the process, the customer sent us their existing DIY technician case and foam with all the parts. The CBS team measured all of the parts and used these measurements to design the foam insert that was then presented to the customer for approval.

The precisely engineered foam insert was built to fit the specific sizes and specifications of the components, with two Modi lid pouches that fit side-by-side included as part of the design. These pouches accommodated smaller parts and other tools the technicians needed to have easy access to while in the field.

The Solution

BeforeAfter_PicknPluck2

Thanks to the switch to a custom polyethylene foam insert that was water-jet fabricated, the monitoring system provider was able to save the time and labor associated with do-it-yourself pick-and-pluck foams, all while getting higher quality results. The custom design of the foam made it easy for technicians to stay organized on the go, readily accessing the parts and tools they need — with assurance those items would be protected throughout the work day.
