Moving Offshore Manufacturing to the USA for Mask Bags

The Challenge

A leading global safety company faced a critical challenge that required quickly and strategically pivoting production from China to the United States.

Weeks into the overseas production of 10,000 mask bags, the client needed to move part of the project to the U.S. 7,000 of these units were part of a U.S. government contract, and as such needed to meet strict Berry compliance standards. Every part of the 7,000 masks – and their carrier bags – had to be manufactured and assembled in the U.S., down to the threads and drawstrings. The government’s deadline was less than eight weeks away.

The Response

Cases By Source’s team immediately coordinated material sourcing and engineering to ramp up production capabilities in the U.S. This included identifying and sourcing U.S.-made fabrics and threads that adhere to Berry Amendment standards.

Within one week, Cases By Source provided the client with an updated quote reflecting these new requirements. This quick turnaround allowed the client to issue a new purchase order and initiate production without delay to meet tight deadlines and compliance requirements.

When faced with tight deadlines and strict Berry compliance requirements, Cases By Source delivered innovative, U.S.-made solutions that exceeded expectations.

The Solution

With Berry-compliant materials sourced and manufacturing moved to the U.S., Cases By Source delivered these 7,000 units in just six weeks, allowing the client to meet their government contract obligations without disrupting the broader production pipeline. The fast, frictionless pivot reinforced the client’s trust in and highlighted Cases By Source’s agility in responding to urgent demands.

Shortly after this win, another contact at the client company reached out to Cases By Source with a second, similar challenge: producing a Berry-compliant soft bag fanny pack to hold military pilot masks. The team worked closely with client engineers to refine the prototype. The final design was durable, lightweight and compliant with the Berry Amendment – and included features for extra functionality, like adding MOLLE webbing to allow attachment items like first aid kits.

Within two weeks, the team produced 50 Berry-compliant prototypes for rigorous military testing. Once approved, Cases By Source was prepared to quickly scale domestic production to 7,000 units.
